It's been several years now since the RAF started using the MBTI tool to explore the value of soft skills as part of their Human Factors flying training. Since its initial launch, the MBTI framework has become such a success that they have recently introduced an additional MBTI-inspired component: coaching.
Squadron Leader Adrian Rycroft and his colleagues have developed a long-term collaboration with OPP, acknowledging that pilots need awareness of the "human interface" as well as the technical aspects of their job. The MBTI instrument is used to understand learning styles, improve communication in the cockpit and make pilots aware of their cognitive processes.
